The Grand Palace, located along the Chao Phraya River, was built in 1782 during the reign of King Rama I. It served as the royal residence for the Kings of Thailand in the past and remains an important site for royal ceremonies. Today, it stands as one of Bangkok’s most iconic landmarks, attracting visitors from around the world.

Within the palace grounds,  Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram, commonly known as Wat Phra Kaew or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. This temple is considered the most sacred in Thailand and houses the Emerald Buddha, a revered statue intricately carved from a single piece of jade. It is believed to possess spiritual power that protects the country from misfortune.

The Emerald Buddha is adorned with seasonal robes, which are changed three times a year summer, rainy season, and winter in a special ceremony performed by the King of Thailand.

 

Visitors can admire the stunning architecture of the Grand Palace, which features:

🏯 Dusit Maha Prasat Hall, a traditional Thai-style throne hall with an exquisite multi-tiered roof.

🕌 Ho Phra Khanthararat, which houses a beautiful Sukhothai-style Buddha image.

👗 Dress Code: Visitors must dress modestly, no sleeveless tops, shorts, or short skirts are allowed.
